Student Council Association

Sponsored by Ms. Walker and Miss Giorgis

The Crestview Student Council Association is the heart, hands, and voice of the Crestview student body. The SCA is composed of officers and classroom representative selected by the students. Students receive leadership training and community service training through projects that are of direct value to the Crestview students and community. The SCA allows children to become acquainted with the election process, vote on many issues, inform their classmates of upcoming events, communicate the ideas of their classmates to the SCA, and work in cooperative groups on special projects.

The SCA officers and candidates are elected each fall through an election process. This active group is composed of elected classroom representatives from each grade, second through fifth. The SCA candidates for President are elected from grade 5, Vice President from grade 4, Secretary / Treasurer from grade 3, and Historian from grade 4 or 5.

The SCA sponsors many events throughout the school year, including fund – raisers, blood drives, special school spirit days, contests, staff recognition days, and teacher appreciation gifts. The SCA appreciates the support of the faculty, parents, and community. We invite all students to get involved in this fun and exciting group!

On behalf of the PTA Board, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to both new and returning Crestview students, parents, and teachers! This year’s PTA Board is gearing up for a spectacular school year – so get ready and get involved!

Start by joining the PTA. Membership costs $5.00 per person. A portion of this fee goes directly to the Virginia PTA/PTSA and National PTA. National and Virginia PTA supply local units (us) with information and resources that can help us contribute to our goal of improving the well-being and education of our children.

The remaining membership fee goes directly to Crestview’s PTA budget. This year’s PTA will provide funding for educational supplements for your children such as the Weekly Reader, Scholastic News, RIF, and Apple Math. Our PTA recruits and supports room parent volunteers; donates money to Crestview’s library; purchases harmonicas for all 3rd graders’; provides party items and food for the 5th grade party; gives money for the DARE program; raises funds and school supplies through the Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Soup Labels programs; publishes the student directory; plans and executes after-school enrichment classes; provides lunches to teachers and staff during the school year; raises money by coordinating fundraising events; and organizes/hosts Crestview’s annual Harvest Social and International Dinner. We accomplish so many things and every penny counts!

Get Involved. The PTA Volunteer Form sent home the first week of school lists our volunteer needs. Please complete and return this form to your child’s classroom teacher. The PTA offers a variety of volunteer opportunities to fit your schedule so please, VOLUNTEER!

Stay Connected. Each month, the PTA sends home a monthly newsletter that’s chock full of PTA information. Newsletters announce upcoming events, call for volunteers, and highlights topics of interest. If you include your e-mail address with your membership, you will also receive e-mail messages from the PTA via the National PTA’s on-line membership system (OMDR). Please let the PTA know if you do NOT want to receive information via OMDR.

Plan to attend monthly meetings. Our meetings are typically held on the third Tuesday of each month and begin at 7PM. Meetings typically take one hour, depending on the agenda and planned program. Children are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Again, welcome to Crestview! Have a happy, healthy, and enjoyable school year!
